Aberdares Thomson Falls Bogoria Masai Mara Safari
Day 1: Home Country – Nairobi
Fly to Kenya from your home country using a direct/ connecting flight. Upon Arrival in Nairobi , the capital city of Kenya you will be met by our English-speaking expert driver guide who will drive you to the Kenyan highlands. After about two hours’ drive from the airport, you will find Karatina town. You will then make a detour up the beautiful tea and coffee plantations in the foothills of Mount Kenya, and have a stop over to take some photos and see the tea plantations. Thereafter you will continue with tour to the delightfully placed Aberdares Country Club for lunch in glorious surroundings that oozes colonial Kenya. The day is for relaxing in the beautiful surroundings, where there is the opportunity to use the swimming pool or play some tennis, horse riding or golf (9 hole course). Day 2: Kenya's unique tree-top hotel- The Ark
After breakfast it is time for a hike in the beautiful park. Here you will be able to see giraffes, zebras, eland antelopes, warthogs, impalas and baboons. After lunch you continue driving into the heart of the dense Aberdares forest to The Ark, which offers the best experiences of wildlife in Kenya's lush Highlands. The Ark was recently stylishly renovated has now become not only a classic, but also a really good and atmospheric safari place in the often chilly highlands. From the lodge there is a direct view of a pond, which has elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and with a little luck the rhinos and leopards coming to drink water from the dense forest, giving you the first real safari experience in Kenya. A warm sweater may be useful since The Ark is located at over 2000 meters altitude, and the nights can sometimes be chilly. Dinner and overnight at The Ark ( FB).
Day 3: Aberdares – Samburu
After breakfast, your safari will take you to north to the Samburu Game Reserve. After vigor in the highlands, it is now time to experience the very dry and beautiful areas of Samburu and buffalo’s spring. You will arrive in time for lunch at the lodge, located with a dazzling view of the breathtaking scenery. The area you are in now is noticeably warmer than Aberdares, and to many veteran African travelers this area is the "real" Africa, where the great species variation provides ample opportunities for incredible experiences. In the afternoon after lunch, you will probably have the first large animal experiences, maybe you will see some of the animals rarely seen elsewhere, like the narrow striped Grevy zebra, the beautiful reticulated giraffe and Somali ostrich. Dinner and overnight stay for two nights at Samburu Sopa (FB).
Day 4: Samburu
Landscape and wildlife explored in today's safari runs, which either start early morning and afternoon or on a long-day "game drive" with picnic lunch Samburu Sopa (FB).
Day 5: Great Rift Valley, the lakes Baringo
After an early morning breakfast, you will head from the lush highlands to the west to grave lowering the Great Rift Valley to the small but lovely Lake Baringo, en-route Thomson falls for lunch. Driving there shows some of the beautiful landscapes, Kenya is blessed with. On a clear day, you will get a view of Mount Kenya; with its 5,199 meters is Kenya's highest and the continent's second highest mountain. Baringo Island Camp (FB).
Day 6: Lake Baringo/ Lake Bogoria
After breakfast depart for Lake Bogoria national reserve. Lake Bogoria is a saline water shallow lake located at the northern region of the Kenyan Rift, 25 km south of Lake Baringo. The reserve, managed by Baringo/Koibatek County, comprises the lake and adjacent lands, with 107 km². In the Colonial days, the lake was known by the name of its discoverer, the Kampala bishop James Hannington, who in 1885 was the first European to see this place while he was heading for his diocese following Thomson's route. This would be the glory day for the priest, but also his last journey, since upon reaching Lake Victoria he was murdered by order of the cruel king of Buganda, Mwanga II. If Lake Baringo is increasingly attracting more visitors because of its plentiful bird-life, Lake Bogoria is, or at least it was until few years ago, a place where the visitor can enjoy the spectacular African scenery in full solitude. Except for ornithology lovers, who don't forgive the pilgrimage to Baringo, this region is quite often the most common itinerary, especially the one-walkers. The reason is that Bogoria is far from outstanding for its mammals' wildlife, the paramount objective for most tourists. Accommodation, meals at Lake Bogoria Resort and Spa (FB).
Day 7: Lake Bogoria/ Lake Nakuru
After an early breakfast depart to Lake Nakuru national park, en-route for lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge also your lodging. You stay for one night at Lake Nakuru Lodge, located in a beautiful park directly at the lake. Lake Nakuru Lodge (FB).
Day 8: Hike and boat trip on Lake Naivasha
After breakfast depart for Lake Naivasha. The day starts with an atmospheric cruise on the lake, where you do not only get close to hippos, but also many of the lake's birds include pelicans and the beautiful African Fish Eagle, often seen. Subsequently hike on the small Crescent Island, where we experience giraffes, zebras, antelopes and gazelles. The afternoon is devoted to relaxing at the Lodge's pool, or to enjoy the park and the animals that are in the park. Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge (FB).
Day 9: The large savanna Maasai Mara
The safari continues to the southwest through the Great Rift Valley to the Maasai Mara plains. The trip is varied and gives a new and excellent impression of the Savannah embossed part of Kenya's landscapes. You are seeing the shift from fertility of the central part of the Rift Valley to the open grassy plains, where more adventures await with gazelles, antelopes and other grazers that characterize the landscape. Maasai Mara Reserve is the northern part of Tanzania's famous Serengeti Plains and is great all year round. You will always experience many different animal species. Large herds of elephant, buffalo, predators and their prey is more frequent here than most other places in Africa. The period from July to October has provided a great opportunity to experience the great wildebeest and zebra migration, which arrive from the Serengeti to Mara and the chances to discover the various extra large predators are many. Look closely for crocodiles, lions, cheetahs, jackals, hyenas and leopards. You expect to arrive in the Mara area at midday. You will bring packed lunches and a large part of the last hours before arrival at the lodge is one long game drive (game drive) before the accommodation in the cozy and charming Mara Sopa Lodge or similar. The area is one of the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem's most wildly colorful throughout the year. Accommodation at the lodge in great luxury tents with private bath / toilet. This gives an authentic African experience to stay in the tent where the sounds of the Savannah are heard clearly especially at night. Accommodation ands meals for two nights at the lodge. Mara Sopa Camp (FB).
Day 10: Maasai Mara
Two long game drives during the day or a long full day game drive. The run will depend on the animals' movements which can only be known on the day itself. From the early morning, when the light coolness still prevails, you will seek out the great experiences among Africa's famed "Big Five" - elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards and rhinos. Rivers meanders crisscrossing through the 1,500-square-kilometer reserve. Here looking animals naturally turn to drink, and there are often great opportunities to take some great pictures. During the stay in the Masai Mara it is also possible to visit a Maasai village (optional extra). A really exciting experience and an encounter with a completely different culture. Warmly, you are invited inside the village, where you are greeted by singing Maasai village women. You have the opportunity to get into the cabins, and to buy a souvenir to take home. A strong meeting is set as an exciting memory long after the end of the tour. Or what about the sublime experience of balloon safari in the morning followed by a cozy breakfast served on the Savannah (not included). We recommend that you book it from home, as there are only a limited number of seats. Mara Sopa Camp (FB).
Day 11: Return or the Indian Ocean
Safari tour ends and drive back to Nairobi. Along the way, you will enjoy the packed lunches before the visit of Karen Blixen's Farm (museum).
